Greece Birth Certificate 

 
The Greece Birth Certificate is called a Lixiarchiki Praxi Geniseos (Ληξιαρχική Πράξη Γέννησης) which is issued Registrar’s office (“Lixiarhio” Ληξιαρχείο). Births must be registered within 40 days of the birth. Late registrations are allowed. There is no central register of births in Greece. There are 3 different documents certifying birth. These are: 
the Registered Birth Act (Lixiarchiki Praxi Gennisis) (ΛΗΞΙΑΡΧΙΚΗ ΠΡΑΞΗ ΓΕΝΝΗΣΕΩΣ) is issued by the registrar where the birth was registered. This birth certificate is a living document which shows all changes and is issued to Greek and foreign citizens (acceptable for HM Passport Office purposes) 
the birth certificate (Pistopoiitiko Genniseos) is issued by the Citizens’ Registry of the Municipality where the person named is a citizen and is only issued to Greek citizens (acceptable for HM Passport Office purposes) 
the Extract of the Registered Birth Act ‘Apokoma Lixiarchikés Praxis Gennisis) (ΑΠΟΣΠΑΣΜΑ) does not have the full details of parents (not acceptable for HM Passport Office purposes) 
 

Greece Death Certificate 

 
The Greece Death Certificate is called a Lixiarchiki Praxi Thanátou (Ληξιαρχική Πράξη Θανάτου) which is issued by Registrar’s office (“Lixiarhio” Ληξιαρχείο) or local city hall (“Dimarxhio” Δημαρχειο). The civil registry in Greece issues all death certificates. 
 

Greece Marriage Certificate 

 
The Greece Marriage Certificate is called a Lixiarhiki Praxi Gamou which is issued by Local Registrar's office (Lixiarhio orΛηξιαρχείο). A marriage must be registered within 40 days at the vital statistics office (Lixiarhio) of the city where the ceremony was held. Late registrations are allowed. Unregistered marriages are not legal. 
 

Greece Divorce Certificate 

 
The Greece Divorce Certificate is called Divorce (Declaration of Marriage Dissolution) where the issuing authority is The Greek Court of First Instance (Protodikio or Πρωτοδικείο) where the ruling took place. 
 

Greece Identity Cards 

 
The Greece Identity Card is called the Greek identity card. The Greek identity card included religion, addresses, biometric characteristics and a fingerprint. All Greeks over 12 years old must have an Identity Card issued. 
 

Is Greece a member of the Hague Service Convention? 

 
Greece is a signatory to the Hague Service Convention (Convention of 15 November 1965). Greece objects to service under Articles 10(a), 10(b), and 10( c ) within its territory.
