Oman Birth Certificate 

 
The Oman Birth Certificate is called a Certificate of Birth which is issued by Directorate General of Civil Status (DGCS), Royal Oman Police. Certificates of live birth are issued to children born in hospital. If the birth takes place outside the hospital the parents obtain a birth notice from the Sheikh or Rasheed in the region. All births must be registered within 2 weeks with the Civil Registration Office. Late birth registrations are allowed up to 1 year after the child is born, Late registration is done by the Inspector General. There is one type of Oman birth certificate. The person will receive 2 copies (one Arabic, one English). 
 

Oman Death Certificate 

 
The Oman Death Certificate is called Certificate of Death or “Shahadat Wafaat” which is issued by Directorate General of Civil Status (DGCS), Royal Oman Police. Deaths must be registered within 2 weeks. Late registration (up to 1 year) is allowed and must be accepted by the Inspector General. There is one type of Oman death certificate. The next of kin will receive 2 copies (one Arabic, one English). 
 

Oman Marriage Certificate 

 
The Oman Marriage Certificate is called Marriage Certificate or “Shahadat Zawaaj” which is issued by Directorate General of Civil Status (DGCS), Royal Oman Police. All marriages must be registered within 30 days and 1 member of the couple must be an Oman citizen. One type of marriage certificate exists, and this is issued in Arabic. The Ministry of Interior hold a central register with records of all registered marriages. 
 

Oman Divorce Certificate 

 
The Oman Divorce Certificate is called Divorce Certificate or “Shahadat Talaaq” where the issuing authority is Ministry of Justice or “Qatib Al Adil”. Divorce in Oman is only available in accordance with Sharia Law. 
 

Oman Identity Cards 

 
The Oman Identity Card is called بطاقة الهوية الوطنية (Identity Card). The Identity Card is Compulsory for male citizens turning 15, optional for females. Biometric since 2014 with information displayed in both Arabic and English. 
 

Is Oman a member of the Hague Service Convention? 

 
Oman is not a signatory to the Hague Service Convention (Convention of 15 November 1965).
