Sri Lanka Birth Certificate 

 
The Sri Lanka Birth Certificate is called a Birth Certificate which is issued by Divisional Secretariat. Birth extracts issued by hospitals and midwives (after a home birth) are used by parents to register their child’s birth at the Registry Office. All births must be registered within 41 days. Late registrations are allowed with a past birth declaration form sent to the Divisional Secretariat. A central register of birth records is held in the Department of Registrar General. The Registrar General issues one type of birth certificate. If a mistake is identified on a birth certificate, a marginal note will be added to the original birth certificate. The birth certificate will not be reissued. 
 

Sri Lanka Death Certificate 

 
The Sri Lanka Death Certificate is called a Death Certificate which is issued by Registrar of Birth and Death and Additional District Registrar. Death certificates are issued following the registration of all deaths in Sri Lanka. All deaths must be registered within 5 days. Late registrations are allowed with a letter of explanation. One type of Sri Lanka death certificate is in circulation. 
 

Sri Lanka Marriage Certificate 

 
The Sri Lanka Marriage Certificate is called a Marriage Certificate which is issued by Registrar of Marriages and Additional District Registrar. In Sri Lanka, there are two types of wedding ceremonies and certificates, these are: 
civil ceremony 
religious ceremony 
All marriages must be registered with the District Registrar within 7 days and a marriage certificate will be issued. A central register of marriage records is held in the Department of Registrar General. 
 

Sri Lanka Divorce Certificate 

 
The Sri Lanka Divorce Certificate is called “Muslim Divorce Certificate” for Muslim marriages, “Decree of Divorce” issued by a Court for other marriages where the issuing authority is Registrar Office of Muslim Marriages and Judge of District Court. 
 

Sri Lanka Identity Cards 

 
The Sri Lanka Identity Card is called the National Identity Card. The National Identity Card is mandatory national identity card. They are issued to citizens from 18 years old. 
 

Is Sri Lanka a member of the Hague Service Convention? 

 
Sri Lanka is a signatory to the Hague Service Convention (Convention of 15 November 1965). Sri Lanka does not object to service under Article 10(b) within its territory. Sri Lanka objects to service under Articles 10(a) and 10( c ) within its territory.
