The Tunisia Birth Certificate is called a Birth certificates (Extrait de Naissance) which is issued by Office of the Registrar (Bureau de l'Etat-Civil). All births must be registered at the local Town Hall within 10 days. The Town Hall will issue a birth certificate. Late birth registrations are allowed. There are two birth registers in use, these are held:
on the premises, at the local town hall
in the Tribunal of First Instance
Tunisia Death Certificate
The Tunisia Death Certificate is called Death Certificate (Certificat Deces) which is issued by Office of the Registrar (Bureau de l'Etat-Civil). Deaths should be declared within 24 hours. Late registration is allowed. Death certificates are issued by the courts to relatives of the deceased. There is one type of death certificate in circulation.
Tunisia Marriage Certificate
The Tunisia Marriage Certificate is called Marriage Certificate (Certificat de Marriage) which is issued by Office of the Registrar (Bureau de l'Etat-Civil). Marriages must be registered at the local Town Hall within 1 month to be valid. Late registration is allowed. Civil marriages conducted by the local Mayor will be registered during the ceremony. Marriage records are held in the Town Hall, the Court and Central Registry.
Tunisia Divorce Certificate
There is no divorce certificate. The court will issue a divorce decree in the jurisdiction where the divorce took place. The court will then notify the registrar so that the next time a birth certificate is requested it will say Divorced. Without this a person will not be able to remarry. Many people take the decree directly to the registrar because of delays between the court and registrar.
Tunisia Identity Cards
The Tunisia Identity Card is called بطاقة التعريف الوطنية (Tunisian National Identification Card). The Tunisian National Identification Card is Compulsory for citizens 18 and older. A minor can obtain a national identity card with a legal ascendant(s) approval.
Is Tunisia a member of the Hague Service Convention?
Tunisia is a signatory to the Hague Service Convention (Convention of 15 November 1965). Tunisia does not object to service under Articles 10(a), 10(b), and 10(c) within its territory.
