Turkey Birth Certificate
The Turkey Birth Certificate is called a Vukuatlı Nüfus Kayıt Örneği which is issued by Offices of General Directorate of Civil Registration and Citizenship (Nüfus ve Vatandaşlık İşleri Genel Müdürlüğü). The Registry Office will issue a birth certificate known as a Formul A, this is internationally recognised, and confirms the birth has been correctly registered. Turkey issue a Record of Identity Register (Nüfus Kayit Örnegi) document which includes personal and family information. Births must be registered within 15 days. Late registrations are allowed.
Turkey Death Certificate
The Turkey Death Certificate is called a Ölüm Kayıt Örneği- Extract of Death Record which is issued by General Directorate of Civil Registration and Citizenship (Nüfus ve Vatandaşlık İşleri Genel Müdürlüğü). When the death occurs, the public health facility official notifies Offices of General Directorate of Civil Registration and Citizenship electronically within 10 days. No additional registration is needed. The Turkish Identity Office issue Formul C death certificates.
Turkey Marriage Certificate
The Turkey Marriage Certificate is called a Marriage Certificate (Uluslararası Aile Cüzdanı) which is issued by The municipality which administers the marriage ceremony. Civil marriages are automatically registered as part of the marriage ceremony. Turkey issues 2 types of marriage document:
a family book (Aile Cuzdani) which records the marriage (acceptable for change of name purposes but not for nationality purposes)
a Formul B marriage certificate, issued by the Identity Office (acceptable for all passport purposes)
Turkey Divorce Certificate
The Turkey Divorce Certificate is called Divorce decree (Boşanma İlamı) where the issuing authority is Family court. The court decision on the divorce is finalized within 15 days of issuance (or sooner if parties waive the appeal). The court then notifies the General Directorate of Civil Registration and Citizenship and requests an update to both parties’ vital records. The divorce should also be reflected on the Extract of Vital Record (Nüfus Kayıt Örneği).
Turkey Identity Cards
The Turkey Identity Card is called Kimlik Kartı (Identity card). The Kimlik Kartı (Identity card) is Compulsory from birth and must be carried at all times. A photograph is optional until the bearer turns 15. It is often photocopied at government offices, banks, and the like.
Is Turkey a member of the Hague Service Convention?
Turkey is a signatory to the Hague Service Convention (Convention of 15 November 1965). Turkey objects to service under Articles 10(a), 10(b), and 10( c ) within its territory.
