How does a process server prove service?
Once the process server has served the documents, they complete a proof of service. This can take the form of a certificate, or a statement, or an affidavit (a sworn statement).
What happens if someone refuses to be served?
If an individual refuses to accept legal documents being served, the process server can still effect service by informing the recipient of the document's nature and leaving it nearby. If personal service is impossible, alternative methods like post, email, or social media might be used, but these usually require court permission.
